As an Australian Shepherd breeder with many years of experience (Australian Shepherd breeders since 2004), we would like to give you more information about this extraordinary dog breed, the Australian Shepherd.
Let's go back in history :)
Contrary to what the name might suggest, the origin of the Australian Shepherd breed is not found in Australia but on a completely different continent. In North America, specimens of different herding dog breeds from European and Australian immigrants interbred. So the Australian Shepherd is actually a mix :)
When these dogs later herded Merino sheep imported from Australia, the so-called "Australian Sheep", the name "Australian Shepherd" came about. And for me the most beautiful race in the world. The Australian Shepherd.
Because of their solid, friendly nature and stable temperament, the Australian Shepherd took on the tough herding work. Even today, the Australian Shepherd is a bright and very sporty animal that constantly wants to be challenged. Simple walks are usually not enough to keep an active Australian Shepherd busy. The Australian Shepherd is known for his intelligence and he wants to learn a lot. Therefore, dog sports such as agility or obedience are just right for an animal of this beautiful breed. The Australian Shepherd is also the ideal riding companion dog. This is where the Australian Shepherd thrives, the main thing is always there and with a lot of fun.
Our Australian Shepherds are from the pure show line, they are not suitable for sport and hard herding work, but our Aussies are also very good as families (for active families), therapy dogs or simply as coach potatoes :)
As breeders, we have a huge responsibility to ensure that your new family member has only the best possible traits that this breed of dog has to offer. This is what our breeding goal focuses on. We attach great importance to a well-balanced, friendly and loving nature in our Aussies, so that they have an affectionate and loyal friend for life, who is easy to care for in upbringing and of course also healthy. Our Australian Shepherds are screened for HD, ED, MDR1, DNA and hereditary eye diseases.
Conclusion: The Australian Shepherd is an active but excellent family and therapy dog that will leave nothing to be desired.
The Australian Shepherd is a medium-sized friendly herding dog.
